From leopard print coats to channelling your inner wild wild west, here are the latest trends worth incorporating into your fall wardrobe.
We get it. It’s the midst of summer and just thinking about the cold weather sweeping over the city sends chills down your spine. Don’t worry, it’s natural! However, if there’s one thing about the changing seasons that you can look forward to, it’s certainly fall fashion. This season, fashion has looked to the past for the revival of prints and patterns, offering fresh and exciting ways of staying stylish this autumn, often with a head-to-toe policy. Here are five of the most prominent trends worth incorporating into your wardrobe for Fall 2018.
Forget any misconceptions or preconceived notions you had about leopard print as it’s clawed its way back into the picture yet again. This time, however, it’s more daring than ever before, most notably with long throw-on coats intended to make a statement in itself. Such loud prints are best paired next to outfits that are simple and toned-down (think all-black and flats), ensuring a look that exudes independence, power and sophistication. For a more moderate approach, a simple splash of leopard, zebra or snakeskin print, such as a top, pair of slides or scarf, is a great way to ease yourself into the mix while healthily remaining on-trend.
Sparkle and Shine
From cocktail dress and two-piece suits to simple handbags, sparkling fabrics resembling a disco ball were prevalent across many top designers. With the flashy head-to-toe look, it almost seems as if fashion houses were looking towards 2050 rather than 2018, but we’re not complaining one bit! You can also elevate your outfit by tossing on a pair of silver sneakers or boots that will shine brightly, especially when paired with understated shades like black. Besides sparkling silver, look to mix it up with fringe, sequins or other high-shine fabrics for that glamorous finish we all love to embody from time to time.
From tartan to plaid, get ready to see checks in all forms and styles this season. The all-over look is confident and intelligent, but also has a 90s-inspired vintage feel to it (think Clueless) that is refreshing and exciting. This time around, we’re seeing a mixing of plaids that is not only with different colours, but also different materials. It’s only a matter of time before checked patterns replace our current obsession with stripes.
Wild Wild West
Undoubtedly one of this season’s most pervasive looks, snakeskin boots, double denim, prairie dresses and cowboy prints were all over the runway this season. While Calvin Klein is no stranger to the cowboy look, it was somewhat surprisingly to see traditional fashion houses like Isabel Marant and Fendi embrace the earthy and nostalgic Americana look. Prairie dresses have a certain innocence and femininity to them, where mid-wash double denim is a great way to channel your inner farm girl.
This fiery monochromatic style is sure to get you noticed by passing pedestrians. Feminine, strong and regal, the all-out power red is a maximalist’s dream and can be pulled off with anything from jumpsuits to two-piece suits. To take it one step further, embellish the look with red accessories and boots for a striking mix between power and magnificence. While we’ve mostly seen eye-popping shades of red, the trend can be thought of like lipstick – there’s a shade to appeal to everyone out there. The traditional fall colour of burgundy, for example, offers a toned-down option.
